Frustration!!

This is the finished mystery quilt top without borders. It looks okay but it was simply awful to sew the rows together. There were 17 seams to match up per row. (Yup, I counted them!) The seams were not ironed so they would be going in opposite directions for easy sewing. You had to finger press to one side as you went along each row. So frustrating! I'm sort of surprised it came out looking this good. If you look real close, some of the seams just don't line up. I did the best I could. It calls for 6 inch borders but I'm thinking of framing it with a 2 inch dark border and then adding the 6 inch border. Any opinions??

  1. I think it looks great! What colour are you going to use for the 6 inch border?... what about 2 - 2inch borders followed by the 6 inch. (Dark-light-dark)

  2. Ooh, I hate it when the seams don't go in the opposite directions when you match them up! It was worth it in the end, though, for such a pretty quilt.
In a funny coincidence, I posted about a quilt with the same pattern on my blog today.

  3. I'm very partial to a smaller framing border before a larger outer border and do almost all my quilt that way. How maddening when the seams are going every which way, makes you want to pull your hair out! Looks good to me.

  4. Great idea on framing it with a slimmer border first. Your top looks great!

  6. I am loving it. A small inner border and a larger outside border would look nice. Maybe 2" and 4".

  7. Rosemary--This turned out beautifully--I know, matching all those seams is a nightmare--I made one recently with the same problem ! I also like the double border idea (and, heh heh--no matching there, huh?? :--)) Julierose

    1. So true, Julierose, the borders are easy and means the quilt top is done!!

  8. I would definitely use a small border before adding the wider border. The finished product will be much more interesting with a double frame.

  9. Okay... there are too many replies to read :) So here's my 2 cents... I think the top looks GREAT! I would do 2 borders as you said. Awwww, I can't wait to see the top with the borders on! Way to go Rosemary! :)
