Two Finishes

I just finished this tote bag for a friend's daughter's graduation. She likes purple and is going away to school. Her mom thought she would like it. She'll be a theater/drama major and has to take dance classes. We're hoping she can use it to tote her dance stuff around. It's a great bag to make. I have one for myself. The directions are very clear and easy to follow. I actually sewed the binding down by machine. It's the first time I tried it. It was so fast! I loved it! Here's another view of the bag:
The binding is easily accessible by the sewing machine since it's at the very top. The pocket on the front comes in very handy. It's tilted but nothing falls out of it. There are no pockets inside but it is very roomy. I hope she likes it!!

These are the socks I've been working on for my son. Not sure if you remember but my son's college apartment had a fire this past December. He lost a pair of socks I had knit him years ago. He asked me if I could make them again for him. Luckily, I found the same yarn I had used to knit the original pair of socks. Just put them through the wash today. I'll give them to him this weekend but it may be too warm to wear them. I bet he'll be happy just to have them back!

  5. Beautiful bag. It must be nice and sturdy for it to be able to stand up by itself. She will love it.
It's great that your son liked his handmade socks so much the first time that he asked for a second pair. Bet he loves those, too.

So sweet of him to ask for another pair from mom. It's such a wonderful feeling when someone appreciates your handiwork, wouldn't you agree?

  8. I love the bag! The colors are so pretty; I love purple. And how sweet that your son wanted another pair of socks made by you! I tried knitting once. After about an hour of trying, I thought, "You've got to be kidding! Who does this and how!!!" hahahaha I couldn't get it. -April @ Little Mama Hen

  9. I've never machine quilted a binding on, except for on a tiny eye glass case. How do you know the front and back binding edges are lining up? Did you use a straight stitch? Zig zag? Decorative? I'm so nervous about trying something like that. But bravo to you for making it happen!

    1. Heather, I sewed on the binding the usual way, raw edge lined up to raw edge. When I folded it over to hand sew, I pinned it and made sure it went past where I would be machine sewing it. I just sewed a straight stitch. I fully intended to hand sew but I could see it was wide enough to go past where I could sew it. It was so much faster! Not sure I would attempt this on a large quilt, but so easy for smaller things.

  11. Great purse/tote. I can't ever have too many of these wonderful items!

I'm so jealous that you can knit such wonderful socks!! I'm not much of a knitter..."I spin...therefore, I knit"

that is sooo great that you were able to replace the knitted socks...exactly like the original ones. A wonderful story will follow these socks all the days of their lives =)
