Sashing has circles!

I started quilting the sashing today. I had a hard time trying to decide just what pattern I should quilt.
The fabric is so busy. I really just wanted something easy and fast. I don't think I will ever think circles are easy. Some of them are round and some of them really aren't very round at all! I thought the circles would be a nice contrast to the basket weave lines on the fabric.

As usual, I'm viewing this as a learning experience and a great way of practicing circles. I hope I'm much better at circles when this quilt is done!!

I'm just sewing diagonal lines over the corner squares. I still love machine quilting! It's so fun once you relax!

  1. I think circles are anything but easy, and have no understanding at all of how people enjoy doing a circle fill. I can do them if I do loopy circles and put space between them--but I'm no good at nesting them next to each other.
For me, one of the fun things about quilting is that after doing it for decades I can still learn new things on almost every quilt. Looking forward to seeing your continued progress on this quilt.

    1. Dora, you're so right! I'm finding out the hard way that circles are not easy! I'm lucky the fabric is very busy. I'm learning a lot on this quilt which is a good thing!

  2. I like to use circles in my quilting as they are very versatile .. just need to be careful with the marking xx mind you I hand quilt .. so maybe the speed of the machine is not helping xx

    1. Actually, Diane, I'm not marking anything. I'm trying free motion quilting which is difficult when making circles. It's a good thing the fabric is busy! It's a learning experience!

    1. Thanks! The sashing is almost done. It felt like this one was going so slow but it got a little faster!

  4. That looks nice! When I do circles, they never become the same either and some of them far from roundish - lol. Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. Rosemary, I love your sampler quilt and you are doing a great job of FMQ. I also am trying to improve my FMQ skills on my domestic machine and some things are much harder than others. For hard things that I want to look good, I do make some marking guides or even stitch over tissue paper. I am not for ripping out FMQ stitches.

    1. I've always wanted to try tissue paper but have heard you have to pick paper out of the stitches so I've always kept away from it. I try telling myself that ripping out stitches will just give me extra practice! Thanks for visiting my blog!!
