McTavishing Attempt #1

Here is my first try at McTavishing! Amy from Amy's Free Motion Quilting Adventures is sponsoring a quilt along and linky party. I've always wanted to try McTavishing but was intimidated by the intricate design.  Amy posted videos of Karen McTavish lecturing and teaching her technique. Amy also had a video explaining her way of quilting this design. I watched and tried to figure out how I would attempt it.

I tried on paper first.

These are only 2 examples I'm sharing. I'm not going to bore you with all the others. When I first started, it was pretty awful. These 2 examples are my better sketches!

So far, I'm quite happy with the results. I hope to improve.  We'll have to see what next week holds in store for us! I'm joining up with Amy's linky party.  Love doing this!

    1. Maybe it's easier to quilt than draw?? Thanks so much for having this. I don't think I would have attempted this alone!

  3. Wow Rosemary - you did a fantastic job on your drawings. I find when I quilt them they take a mind of their own -- this is why I'm joining in with Amy's Quilt along - - maybe I can make them look more like Karen's.

    1. Thank you! Something definitely "clicked" when I sat down to sew. It was easier than I thought but still needed lots of concentration!

  5. I think you did a great job on the sketches and the quilting. I do find it easier to quilt on fabric than doodle on paper.. I can't wait to see what comes next Monday.

    1. Thank you! It's so odd to think it's easier to sew a design than draw by hand! I'm hoping I can do okay with whatever we do next week!

Can't wait to see what they look like in stitches!

    1. Thanks! I'll have to admit that I had an easier time sewing it than drawing it! Doesn't really make sense! Thanks for visiting my blog!

  7. Great McTavishing! Mine tend to be short too - rather than long wavy lines. I think McTavishing is like handwriting, everyone's is different and I enjoy seeing the different styles! :)
