Slow Hexie Project

I think this is the slowest project ever I've ever worked on! I realize the sewing is all done by hand but it takes so long! It measures about 26" x 26"so far.  It's such an odd shape that it's difficult to measure. It's actually quite pretty in person. I'm just amazed at how long this has taken to get to this size. I suppose it's my fault too since I knit and tend to ignore this piece for off and on.

This is my latest flower. Making the flower itself doesn't take a very long time. I think the most time consuming part is sewing it to the larger piece. Does anyone have any shortcuts?? Maybe it's just me.

I like the way it's coming out so I will keep trudging along! Someday, I'll be happy I didn't give up!

  1. Think of it as kind of like a hexagon diary of your quilt projects. Isn't that blue fabric in your newest flower the border fabric farm your Farmer's Wife?

  2. That's the hard part--as the piece grows (LIke my Monet's Garden--which I am totally stalled on!!) it gets more and more difficult to manage I find. i think some very gorganized plan-aheaders make a graph sheet and do the whole thing in rows--but i never think that way ...your piece is really lovely...hugs, Julierose

    1. Thanks, Julierose! I guess I just don't think that far ahead! I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds it difficult! We'll both just have to keep going!!

  3. So pretty! My mini hexies only get worked on when I go on holiday - I shall still be sewing them for the next ten years!

  4. I was like that with my hexie project too, the joining of the rosettes seemed to take forever. One thing I found as the project grew was that the papers were making the large piece hard to handle so I removed them as I went... but only removing them from hexies that had an outer joined to it, if that makes sense! Yours is looking great by the way!! Your latest hexie is super cute.

    1. Thank you, Raewyn! Yes, that does make sense! I'm going to remove more of the papers and hope that helps. It's a nice project but seems to drag for me.
