Farmgirl Vintage Needs Quilting!!

Farmgirl Vintage is all set to be quilted! I spent Monday morning pin basting. So glad when that was done! My only problem is that I just can't decide how to quilt it! It's very much a sampler since each block is so very different. I had intended on custom quilting each block but am thinking twice about that now. Some blocks have a lot of open fabric. Each block is so very different from all the other blocks. I searched online for finished quilts and many were quilted with allover designs.

Here's the back. Isn't it the perfect fabric?? I really love it.

Anyways, getting back to the quilting, I was thinking of an allover design for the actual blocks but doing something different in the borders. Of course, I also have to figure out which allover design I'll be quilting. Too many decisions! I'm waiting for the quilt to "talk" to me but it's been very quiet! Guess I'll wait a little longer! Any ideas???

  2. Your quilt is absolutely beautiful! Love your choice of fabric and color for the border! The inner border is wonderful too and does a great job of framing all those wonderful and adorable blocks. An overal design would be very nice!

    1. Thank you, Joanie! So glad you like it! I'm still leaning towards an overall design. I was practicing a little scroll feather flower. We'll see what I end up with!

  3. The quilting would somewhat depend on what you wanted to use the quilt for. If each block would be custom stitched, with heavier/denser stitching, the quilt would be stiffer/flatter than an all-over, more open, type approach. I would be tempted to do the more custom work with a piano key or more line-type/angular border. Not super cuddly when done but fun to quilt!!!!

    1. Thank you so much for your advice. I'm so torn! I love to custom quilt and it would give me a chance to do some ruler work. Allover quilting would make the quilt nice and soft. I have no idea what to do!

  4. Beautiful quilt...not sure about the all over designs on this one. I think I am leaning more for some minimalist custom quilting in the blocks, then some design in the sashing, inner border and outer border. I am always struggling as well when it comes to making decisions around the quilting...whatever you do though...it will be a stunning quilt.

    1. Karin, I am taking your advice and quilting each block separately. I think it's the best way to show off these lovely blocks. Thank you so much!!
