Green Tea Sweet Beans Quilt Top

Image may contain: indoor

I'm hoping that the next time you see this quilt top, it will all be one piece! I plan on sewing the borders on tomorrow. I've done as much applique as I can for now. Once the borders are sewn, I can connect the vine. I'm so close to being done!

These are my side borders. I can't wait to see how this looks when the finished! It's been a fun project but parts of it have been very slow.  So far, I love how it's coming out. I have no idea how to quilt it but I'll think of something!

Memorial Day

Image may contain: stripes

Hoping you all had a great Memorial Day Weekend. Unfortunately, this was my holiday to work but it was fine. The weather wasn't so great so it wasn't so terrible to be at work. I also worked Saturday so there hasn't been much time for quilting around here. I'm off the next few days and plan to catch up on some of my projects. I'll post some pictures soon!

Antique Double Wedding Ring

No automatic alt text available.

This is a close up of an antique Double Wedding Ring quilt top I bought a while back. I just couldn't resist it! It's in great shape. I will have to reinforce seams since some of them are quite loose. I bought a heavier batting for this project. I felt it would make the quilt a bit stronger since the quilt top is on the thin side.

This is the whole quilt top. It measures about 87" X 101". It's a great size. It was made in the 1940's.  I'm planning my quilting patterns. I'm going to practice on the longarm before I load this. It's such a pretty quilt that I want to finish it the best way I can for the quilter who made the top so many years ago. Most of this quilt was machine pieced but there are some seams that were hand pieced.

This is the backing I chose. It's from the Anne of Green Gables line. I thought it would be perfect for this vintage quilt! I can't wait to start quilting this but I'm going to finish a few projects first. I'm half done hand sewing the binding On Ringo Lake and my borders are almost ready to be sewn onto the Green Tea and Sweet Beans quilt. I want to finish both of these projects before I get completely engrossed in this beautiful Double Wedding Ring.

Hand Applique

No automatic alt text available.

I've been working on my borders for Green Tea and Sweet Beans. I added berries to the top border. I think they're so cute! The add a cute little detail to the quilt.

The side borders have all their flowers and vines complete. Leaves are next!  I will have to add more flowers and vines when the borders are all sewn onto the main quilt. I'll have to connect the vines so it will look like one big vine surrounding the quilt. I really love the way it's coming out.

Don't let these borders fool you! They take forever! I'm trying to split my time between these borders as well as sewing down the binding On Ringo Lake. Too bad I only have one pair of hands!!

Binding On Ringo Lake

Image may contain: indoor

I finally got to sew the binding onto On Ringo Lake. I loved sewing this. It means this monster quilt is almost finished!

It didn't take as long as I expected. I put the walking foot onto my machine and just kept sewing each side until it was done. It's always a satisfying feeling to finish any project.

The quilt doesn't look much different after the binding has been sewn. I think it just looks more finished. There are no stray threads along the edges anymore!

Here's a photo of the back so you can see all the lovely quilted texture. It hasn't even been washed yet! I love this!

Happy Mother's Day

No automatic alt text available.

I hope you're all enjoying and having a Happy Mother's Day! I tried not to do housework but I had to clean up a few things this morning. I'm having a nice quiet afternoon enjoying my family.

I got my binding all ready to sew onto On Ringo Lake. I was hoping I could steal a little time this afternoon and sew it on the quilt but I don't think that's going to happen! I'm going to rest and relax and enjoy the day instead. There will be plenty of time to sew this in the next few days.

Once again, Happy Mother's Day! Have a wonderful day and enjoy your families!

Green Tea and Sweet Beans Applique

No automatic alt text available.

I've been basting my applique pieces so I can sew them onto the borders for Green Tea and Sweet Beans. I'm not sure I have enough pieces ready but I'll applique these first and add more later!

Here are my freezer paper pieces ironed onto the back of the fabrics. I try and use the freezer paper over again. It makes the process much quicker.

These are the borders. I'm slowly filling them in! I can't wait to see this quilt top all put together!

Border Quilting On Ringo Lake!

No automatic alt text available.

I'm in the process of quilting the borders of On Ringo Lake. I decided on loops for the small inner border. I felt swirls would be a good choice for the outer border.

I was going to change the thread to black for the inner border. But I decided to take the risk and keep the thread the same grey I had used throughout the quilt. I think it was more laziness on my part as opposed to risk taking! Anyways, I think it came out fine.

This is just a closeup of the border quilting. I have 3 sides left to quilt! I can't believe it's almost done! I'm already thinking about the binding. Happy dance!!
