Sashay scarf and FMQ

I finished my sashay scarf yesterday. It was quick and fun. This yarn is more like a mesh. You knit into the top row of the mesh. You don't knit into each chamber. I tried that and it didn't work out very well. That's when I decided to watch the video which clearly shows you knit into every other opening of the net. Then, everything got very easy! I hear Joann's carries this yarn and I just might go buy some more. They make great gifts and they're really pretty. There are a ton of colors to choose from but I'm not sure what kind of variety I'll find at the store. I think I have a coupon that expires soon so I really should go make a quick trip!

I also machine quilted my Lil Twister quilt. I have the borders left. I just used my trusty old meandering! I used variegated thread by Robison-Anton, 50 weight, 100% cotton. The thread has a nice sheen to it. I also used the same thread in the bobbin. My bobbin didn't want to cooperate today. The thread kept breaking for some reason. It seemed to wrap around the middle of the bobbin case. It's never done that before but I still managed to finish most of the top in one afternoon. It was a great day to stay in and quilt since it was so darn hot outside. I was nice and comfy sewing! Who cares what the temperature is!!

I'm thinking of doing something different for the borders. I'm looking through Leah Day's book trying to find some inspiration! I'll let you know what I decide!

  1. Lovely scarf and a great quilting pattern for the Lil Twister quilt! Using a different quilting design for the borders sounds fun - looking forward to seeing the finished quilt! =)

  3. The scarf is awesome. I also like your quilt. How do you like the Leah Day book? Is it a book you would recommend for someone wanting to know more about FMQ?

    1. Linda, I like her book but it's the exact same thing that's on her website. It's only a compilation of her 365 designs. If you want to learn how to sew them, you have to go to her website. I like having all the designs in one place. I take the book to work and browse when I can!

  5. Cute scarf! You must have quite a collection now. :-)

I spent the day machine quilting too, but still have a long ways to go. :-(

    1. I'm trying to figure out what to do with the borders. If you ever want to get together, we can practice FMQ together! Meandering is fast!I got more yarn at Joann's last night!

  6. Hi Rosemary, I'm going to have to look into this 'Joann's', I keep hearing people mention it but I don't know if there's one anywhere near the Manhattan subway system - I'm going to check it out now. You've changed your profile photo and for a moment I wondered if it was still you - glad to see it is ;) Love the scarf by the way, they're so quick and easy and people who don't knit are always so impressed by them, as you say - great gifts :)

    1. It's still me!! Joann's is a large fabric/craft store. Their fabric is okay although it's not quilt shop quality. They have yarn and all sorts of craft supplies. They're fun to poke around in.

  7. That scarf is so pretty! I really must get over my fear of FMQ and just start practicing it. However, I've got some deadlines to meet on some things so it may be a while. Your meandering looks great!!! That's what I was thinking about trying first.

  8. I've been meandering for awhile but never had much of a problem with it. Start on something small and work your way up. You'll be working on a good sized quilt in no time! You'll be surprised how easy and quick it is.
