My daughter, my mom and I got together last week to spray baste the layers together. This was no easy task! This quilt measures approximately 95" X 105". It took over an hour but we did it! I started free motion quilting last week. I'm just meandering all over the whole thing.
I am using a variegated King Tut thread. The thread colors for the middle of the quilt is blue and light blue. The thread I chose for the borders is medium blue to dark blue. My strategy is to start in the middle and work my way out to the edges. I'm almost done with the middle portion which is the old quilt top my mother found. She wants it on her bed as soon as I can get it done! We decided meandering would be the quickest and most practical quilting. I haven't meandered/stippled in ages! It's all coming back!
Hope everyone had a wonderful and Happy New Year!!
Whoa, that must be hard to keep such a large quilt moving under the needle. I think it's really sweet that you, your Mom and your daughter all worked together to do the basting.
ReplyDeleteMy mom had no idea how much work the whole basting process involved. It certainly was nice to have help!
Deletethat certainly is a big job--what I find most diofficult rolling and unrolling or re-positioning the quilt all the time--it's tiring..but this looks like you have it under control. "Down, Beast, Down!!" ;--))) hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteI have yelled at it but I didn't use such nice words!! I'm just doing a little everyday. It's too big to do a lot at once.
DeleteLovely stippling - do you use a domestic sewing machine or a long-arm?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have a HandiQuilter Sweet Sixteen Sit Down. So much better than a DSM since this quilt is so huge!
DeleteLookin' like you've got it "licked"!!! That is one big quilt.....just think of the muscles you're developing!!!! Hugs......
ReplyDeleteI did feel as though I was getting a workout while quilting this monster quilt! Thanks for leaving such a nice comment!
DeleteOh wow, that's a mammoth project! Well done, it's looking fab 😊 Happy new year! Xx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Gilly! Hoping you have a wonderful and Happy New Year!
