I finally got the courage to start quilting Arcadia Avenue. I chose a block that was in the middle of the block. (Sort of!) I outlined the middle black star-like image. I wasn't sure what color thread I should be using. I was afraid that black would show up on the fabric next to middle image. White was completely out of the question. I ended up using a silver gray. I used Aurifil thread which I love to quilt with!
I quilted around each colored triangle. Then, I went back and stitched around the white boomerang shape. On my way back, I quilted loops and continued on to the next colored triangle.
These hexagon blocks are rather large. They measure 20 inches across the middle. It seems as though the quilting went much faster than I expected. Good news!! Hope to be moving on to the next block soon!!
Deciding how and what to quilt is the hardest part isn't it? Your block is looking great. Going through the same challenge with daughter's baby quilt right now...
ReplyDeleteThank you! I feel "Quilt as desired" are the most dreaded words! It's so hard. You'll think of something! We always do!
DeleteGreat choice using the loops. It enhances the movement of the block.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Em. Each block needs a new set of decisions concerning the quilting. One block at a time!!
DeleteGood choice on that silver gray for quilting--the pattern really looks very intricate--lovely--you are so good at quilting...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteJulierose, you always write the nicest comments! Thank you so much for the support and encouragement! I really appreciate it!
DeleteYes, agree with above...great thread choice and the quilting looks lovely. What sort of machine are you using? Saw a bit of the foot...is this a Midarm?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karin! It's a Sweet 16 Sit Down by Handiquilter. I think I'm getting a longarm! Found a used one. Will have to learn machine quilting all over again!
