My Sad News

Image may contain: 2 people, people smiling, people standing and wedding

I hate having to say that my dad passed away 2 days ago. He was 90 years old so he did live to a ripe age. However, I just wasn't ready to this to happen. He had been in declining health. He had had a stroke a few years ago and just wasn't the same after that. But, he was still with us.

A few days ago, he woke up at 2AM and my mom thought he was acting strangely. He couldn't walk properly and may have had a seizure. He was unresponsive after that. An ambulance was called and he was admitted to the hospital. A few hours late, he was gone. So fast. I'm so glad he didn't suffer but it's just hard to accept.

My dad was a custom tailor. It was through him that I developed a love of sewing. When my dad had difficult times, he always turned to his sewing machine. I'm hoping my sewing/quilting will do the same for me. The funeral is tomorrow and I'm hoping I get through it okay. Then, I'm going to sew and thank my dad for passing his ability to sew onto me. I think it would be the most fitting tribute to him.

By the way, that picture is from May 13, 1984. I can't believe it's been so long.

  2. What a beautiful photo - a real memory to treasure. I hope the funeral goes well and gives you a helpful way to celebrate who he was. Whenever I miss my Mum & Dad too painfully I try to remind myself that I take 50% of each of them wherever I go xx

  6. I am so sorry, Rosemary. My mother had strokes, and she was never really with us after the first one, even though, she was there. We can never be ready for the death of a parent. I send my best wishes to you and your family in this difficult time.

    1. That sounds very much like my dad. He was physically present but not his old self. But he was still with us. Thank you for your kind words.

  7. I send my condolences to you. My dad is 91 and is somewhat frail and I am lucky to still have him so far. Mom turns 90 in a few weeks and is frail too and I realize that things could change suddenly.

    1. Thanks, Connie. I always told myself once they reach a certain age, anything can happen. It's just so hard to accept. I wish your parents many more years of good health.

  8. Rosemary, I'm so very sorry to read that your Dad has passed away. Yes, it was good that he had 90 years but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with the loss. I lost my Dad when he was 90, I know how you will be feeling.
    Take care of yourself.

    1. Thanks so much, Raewyn. I survived the funeral and now must adjust to life without my dad. I think sewing would be the best therapy and I'm sure my dad would agree.
