Ruler Work


 I made it to the bottom of my quilt! I just have this last border left. This part goes rather quickly since I don't mark anything. I use rulers and the blocks in the quilt to figure out where my designs go.


Those parallel lines are 1/2" apart. This ruler makes them so easy to sew. I bought this ruler at MQX years ago after taking a class that showed us how to use it. This particular ruler was from Deloa Jones. She used to teach and sell all sorts of rulers and accessories for longarm quilting. Since the pandemic, the quilt shows haven't really returned. It was fun learning new techniques and buying tools for the longarm. Mail order just isn't the same!

    Almost there, Rosemary! Your quilting is beautiful! I admire ruler quilting. I need to learn more about that and how it's done on domestic machine.

      Thanks, Astrid! I really think ruler work adds a lot to machine quilting. I can't afford a computer for my long arm but between ruler work and free motion quilting there's a lot you can do.

    I agree--online is so different from in-person--Here, all of our JoAnnes box stores have gone and now we really don't have very many--if any--fabric stores near us...I used to love just roaming around seeing all the items offered...
    Your ruler work looks great--nice that you got to have it shown to you...

      I really miss JoAnne's too. Sometimes I just needed a small piece of fabric and I didn't need quilt store quality. It's one less place to shop. I feel you're taking a chance when buying online. It might not be what you want. I loved taking hands on classes at MQX. I learned so much.
